More than 50% of small businesses fail before their fifth consecutive year of operating. 2023 marks the 5th year anniversary of Soteria Solutions. We spoke with three leaders to capture their reflections on how Soteria Solutions has leveraged their strengths and their partners’ strengths to thrive in their first five years; being a catalyst for achieving meaningful change in high schools, colleges and universities and in workplaces.

The potential impact of bystander intervention programming for sexual and relationship violence and stalking was codified when the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act amended the Clery Act to require all colleges and universities that receive federal funding to provide bystander intervention programs that teach students skills to safely and effectively intervene if they witness interpersonal violence. As campus administrators seek to select a bystander intervention program for their campus, they might ask, “How do I know if it works?”

The first Virtual Office Hours Event was a big success!

Caroline Leyva, Director of Curriculum Development and co-author of Bringing in the Bystander® College and High School Prevention Program, led the Office Hours and answered questions and provided insight to assist with facilitation questions.

At Soteria Solutions, we implement programs focused on preventing sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking and discrimination. Therefore, nearly all of the content in any of our programs could be potentially triggering to participants who have directly experienced – or had someone close to them experience – interpersonal violence. We also focus on primary prevention programming, which is designed for participants who have not had previous conversations about violence.

The Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education recently released its third annual report which summarizes work from the past year (2022) including work done by members and partner organizations. Soteria Solutions is proud to be recognized in the annual report for evidenced-based solutions to address and prevent sexual harassment and violence.

The Know Your Power® Bystander Social Marketing Campaign is the result of almost 20 years of collaboration between researchers and practitioners who have worked together to develop, evaluate, and implement a “passive” intervention strategy that increases target audience awareness of the problem of sexual and relationship violence, stalking, and sexual harassment, providing them with tools to intervene when they witness dangerous or potentially dangerous situations.
