Solutions to safeguard unit cohesion while building trust, accountability, and respect within the ranks.
Safe and Respectful Learning and Living Communities
By embodying the values of Respect, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage—this program empowers soldiers to take an active role in preventing and addressing harmful behaviors that threaten the strength of the unit.
By reinforcing the responsibility to speak up and intervene as prosocial bystanders, civilians and military personnel create an environment where every team member feels valued and protected. This proactive approach not only strengthens morale and mission readiness but also ensures that every participant upholds the highest ethical standards, both on and off duty.
When military members live by these values and lead with prosocial bystander examples, they foster a military community where safety, dignity, and mutual respect define the way they serve—side by side, united as one.
An Evidence-Based Solution: Bringing in the Bystander College Prevention Program
Bringing in the Bystander (BITB) Miltary-Based Version is a prevention program based on the concept that all community members have a role to play in ending incivility, harassment, violence and discrimination. The important role that a bystander has in intervention is the basis for this unique and effective program.
The program helps participants gain the knowledge and skills needed to identify and safely intervene before, during and after instances of risky behaviors. With the common goal of creating and maintaining safe and respectful learning, working and living communities void of incivility, harassment, violence and discrimination.

For me, the quality of any prevention program is evaluated by the underlying research. It was from reading the research that I discovered Bringing in the Bystander and Know Your Power. These evidence-based programs address issues directly, include materials and scenarios that are highly representative and the programs are highly adaptive for our community. While the quality of the program is fundamental, as important to me is the quality of the people, as they will inevitably provide guidance, feedback, and technical assistance on implementation. For me, this is another key area where Soteria Solutions stands out. My contacts at Soteria Solutions have been incredibly supportive, approachable and beyond helpful.
