Know Your Power® to Create a Safer & More Respectful High School Community
Know Your Power, one of the first and best evaluated bystander intervention marketing campaigns providing effective sexual and relationship violence prevention strategies, has been adapted for high schools building on its main tenets.
Know Your Power is a low-cost program to build safe and respectful high school communities by increasing the knowledge of how to intervene safely and increase the willingness to intervene.
Know Your Power is based on the premise that all community members have a role and responsibility as a part of the community; the importance of a prosocial role is incorporated into each scenario to assist high school students in recognizing unacceptable behavior and learning when and how to safely intervene and to support those affected.
An Overview of Know Your Power
Know Your Power was developed by Prevention Innovations Research Center based on in-depth bystander intervention research and focus groups and is exclusively distributed by Soteria Solutions.
Know Your Power is designed to help a large group of community partners – state coalitions against sexual and domestic violence, departments of health, rape crisis centers, YMCAs, high school administrators, leaders and counselors – to make lasting change through integrated campaigns that achieve high visibility and reach. The consistent and comprehensive messages increase awareness and understanding of what acceptable behavior is and what it is not.
Know Your Power is a set of bystander intervention marketing campaigns portraying realistic and provocative scenarios developed and adapted to be appropriate and relevant for high school students. The scenarios heighten students’ awareness and knowledge, encouraging them to be willing to safely act and support those affected.
Each marketing campaign features a scenario to simulate situations where active bystander behavior effects lasting change.
