Empowering Faculty & Staff: Building a Safer Campus Through Bystander Intervention

Engage Every Member of Your Campus/Workplace Community

An in-person program that encourages all members of your campus to become positive bystanders in instances of sexual and interpersonal violence, harassment, and workplace incivility. Participants learn to identify problem situations and learn practical skills for safe and effective intervention.

Customized for Your Environment

Our workplace trainings are customizable to reflect the locations, colloquialisms, and culture of your organization. The training curriculum is based on best practices, evidence-based prevention and response strategies, and Soteria Solutions’ existing workplace prevention strategies.

A Better Approach

Rather than focusing narrowly on perpetrators and victims, the highly interactive, backed-by-researched, our Faculty & Staff Prevention Program uses a community of responsibility approach.

It teaches bystanders how to safely intervene in situations where an incident may be occurring or where there may be risk.

BRINGING IN THE BYSTANDER PREVENTION PROGRAM – AN OVERVIEW

This interactive program allows participants to develop and practice bystander intervention prevention skills in-person or virtually. BITB approaches all community members as potential bystanders or witnesses to risky situations and teaches prosocial (positive, appropriate, and safe) ways to prevent or intervene. BITB can be modified to reflect the culture and demographics of your Installation, Unit, and Group. Customize the curriculum to meet specific needs of your audience!

An Overview of Our Approach

Effecting lasting change is not a check-the-box effort. To achieve lasting change in the Workplace requires understanding of one’s organizational frameworks to uncover the strengths that can be built on.

Common Symptoms of Incivility, Harassment, Violence and Discrimination in the Workplace include:

  • Communication issues

  • High turnover

  • High absences

  • Incidents of aggression and bullying

  • Stress-related illnesses

  • Underperformance

  • Reduced productivity

Our Workplace Solutions typically include two lenses with the initial focus on one’s organizational frameworks:

ORGANIZATIONAL FRAMEWORKS & THE ROLE OF THE BYSTANDER

We believe in the importance of organizational frameworks to prevent and respond to incivility, harassment, violence and discrimination in the workplace. Organizational frameworks are the pillars of an organization and include components such as goals, strategic plans, company values, policies, job descriptions, cultural norms, performance reviews and incentives.

PLUS

The role of the bystander: decades of research show the important role of bystander intervention to prevent, respond and react to incivility, violence, discrimination and harassment. As we work with organizations, we offer proven solutions that help employees, contractors, staff and management to develop capabilities and skills to safely intervene as a bystander, contributing to establishing a safe and respectful work environment for all.
