Soteria Solutions President Speaking at Third Annual Public Summit of the National Academies’ Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education
On October 13, 2021, Soteria Solutions’ President Jane Stapleton will co-lead a presentation about “A Comprehensive Approach to Assessing Climate and Culture: The We Are NOAA Workplace Culture Survey.” Stapleton will be speaking with Kelley Bonner, LCSW, MA, Director, Workplace Violence Prevention and Response for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) is co-hosting the October 12-13, 2021 virtual summit, the third annual open forum it has organized for its Action Collaborative and higher education community members – as well as policymakers, nonprofits, sexual violence and harassment researchers, sexual harassment response practitioners and other leaders.
Based on their collaboration, development, and implementation of the We are NOAA Workplace Culture Survey, Stapleton and Bonner will discuss how climate and culture surveys can help institutions of higher education and workplaces to understand the extent of sexual assault, sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination within their organization.
They will also address why institutions must uncover strengths and social norms to use this comprehensive information and data to inform prevention and response strategies and policy solutions.
Stapleton and Bonner’s presentation will build upon the NASEM Action Collaborative Evaluation Working Group’s work on conducting campus surveys, analyzing data, producing public reports, and using quantitative and qualitative methods for measuring progress. They will also expand on approaches for increasing transparency and/or public release of climate survey results, as well as systems for monitoring the climate on campus that do not rely on formal reports and investigations.
Participants will learn best practices to:
Incorporate social norms questions in culture and climate surveys
Engage community members in the development of/adaptation of a climate survey
Identify strategies to recruit survey participants
Disseminate findings to community members
Utilize survey findings to inform prevention, response and policy change
This session is designed to help administrators and evaluators – as well as policy, prevention and response personnel who are part of a comprehensive effort to assess culture and climate and use data to inform effective solutions.
