In January this year, the school system began a new curriculum called Bringing In the Bystander® that equips students with skills to better protect themselves from sexual violence and harassment. It's provided to 9th grade high school students through their health and PE courses.
Having students trained in classes like this makes them more tuned in when something isn't right, Kraybill said.
"I pray we don't find any more of these [assault] cases, but what we're doing now should very clearly prevent these kinds of things from happening in the future," she added.
