Collective Action to Address and Prevent Sexual Harassment
Recently, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) Action Collaborative published their 2020-2021 Sexual Harassment Collaborative Repository, and Soteria Solutions is proud to have the following two offerings featured:
Bringing in the Bystander® - Adapting for Livestream: Soteria Solutions is the exclusive distributor of this interactive, innovative educational program for high schools, colleges and workplaces that encourages participants to become prosocial bystanders in instances of sexual and interpersonal violence or harassment.
Bringing in the Bystander® (BITB) aims to target all members of a given community with the understanding that everyone has a role to play in preventing sexual and interpersonal violence or harassment.
The goal of BITB training is to teach people how to improve their ability to recognize potentially dangerous or problematic situations and to intervene in such situations in safe and effective ways.
The BITB program was originally designed and evaluated to be delivered in-person and face-to-face – but due to the pandemic in 2020, Soteria Solutions’ team created an amended program that allowed for delivery via synchronous (real-time, livestream) online platforms such as Zoom. Curriculum, training and content were adapted to maximize learning and participation in a remote online format that is effective and accessible for participants regardless of location.
A Comprehensive Approach to Assessing Climate and Culture: Workplace Culture Survey©: Soteria Solutions created a survey to measure individual and organizational strengths, which includes the concept of “navigational identities” to understand how identities may impact how someone experiences the workplace.
- Soteria Solutions’ Workplace Culture Survey© is a thorough assessment of the workplace environment in order to provide actionable data about strengths and assets, as well as prevalence of problematic cultural behaviors and patterns that support sexual assault and sexual harassment and other inappropriate behaviors including racism, homophobia, bullying, overly harsh supervision, unwanted attention, unfair judgements, etc.
- The Workplace Culture Survey is based on current prevention science and research with the purpose of:
- Assessing what may be healthy and unhealthy across an organization and for specific identity groups
- Determining the role of colleagues, supervisors and senior leaders in terms of inhibiting or disinhibiting problems o Identifying problems and risk-areas within an organization and at different levels in relation to demographic and identity characteristics
- Generating information that can be incorporated into activities designed to reduce and prevent these problems and create safe, respectful and inclusive environments for all members of an organization
- Soteria Solutions developed the Workplace Culture Survey during winter 2020 - spring 2021 as part of an ongoing consultation with Action Collaborative member the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). Soteria Solutions intends to partner with other academic and workplace organizations to implement the survey and to use findings to develop comprehensive prevention, response and policy solutions.
Soteria Solutions works with a broad range of organizations, including high schools and colleges, as well as businesses and federal and state agencies to help create and maintain safe and respectful environments for all.
